In his speech, Gu Jiangang, Chairman and CEO of Tai Chong Cheang Group, pointed out that the successful cooperation between Tai Chong Cheang Group and Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding in its early establishment not only helped Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding achieve a major breakthrough in the field of large shipbuilding but also laid a solid foundation for the steady development and enhancement of the industry reputation of Tai Chong Cheang Group. Joining hands again after twenty years, the naming of these two new ships not only demonstrates a significant improvement in the scale and depth of cooperation between the two parties but also strongly supports the modernization, transformation, and upgrading of the Tai Chong Cheang Group fleet and the strengthening of its market competitiveness, marking a new level in the win-win cooperative relationship between the two sides.
Zhang Wei, Vice General Manager of Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, expressed his gratitude to all the guests attending the naming ceremony. He stated that Tai Chong Cheang Group is a highly respected partner of the company. Since the establishment of Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, the group, with great trust, became the company’s first customer, providing much help and support. The cooperation between the two sides has become a model for Shanghai-Hong Kong economic and trade exchanges and the development of China’s shipbuilding industry. Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding hopes to take this naming as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with Tai Chong Cheang Group in the field of low-carbon and environmentally friendly ship types, explore broader cooperation space, promote mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, and jointly contribute Chinese wisdom and strength to the global marine economy.
Tai Chong Cheang Group is a century-old shipping enterprise founded in 1917 and enjoys a high reputation in the world shipping market. On October 17, 1999, Gu Guohua, Chairman of Tai Chong Cheang Steamship (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., taking the opportunity to attend the commencement of the Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding base, took the lead with great trust in signing a letter of intent with the company for the construction of 1+1 175,000-ton Capesize bulk carriers. This was the first shipbuilding contract signed after the establishment of Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
On June 25, 2003, the 175,000-ton Capesize bulk carrier “Xiang Rui” built by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for Tai Chong Cheang Steamship (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. was named and delivered. This was the largest green and environmentally friendly bulk carrier in China at the time, and also the first ship in China to obtain the ABS “Green Notation”. The successful delivery of the “Xiang Rui” and subsequent ships of this type not only established Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s leading position in the field of large shipbuilding but also made the cooperation between the two parties a model for Shanghai-Hong Kong economic and trade exchanges and the development of China’s shipbuilding industry.
After more than twenty years, the two parties have joined hands again. The “CSK JUBILEE (瑞庆)” and “KWK REVELATION (和昭)” named simultaneously on October 13 are green and environmentally friendly tankers meticulously built by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding once again for Tai Chong Cheang Group. Through technological innovations such as hydrodynamic optimization, both ships fully meet the EEDI Phase III, Tier III environmental standards, and sulfur oxide emission requirements, fully embodying the perfect combination of energy saving, safety, and economy, with comprehensive performance reaching world-class levels.
