Inland Waterways Authority of India which has developed full-fledged Waterways on Ganga and Brahamaputra during the last six years has turned its attention to river Krishna for developing National Waterways Four.
The stretch of river Krishna between Vijayawada and Galagali is part of the declared National Waterway-4 said Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonawal informed the Rajya sabha in a written answer.
In this stretch, the development works to be taken up by Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) include deployment of four Floating jetties, Dredging in the stretch for navigational purpose.
Land acquisition process for construction of three Ro-Ro terminals at Muktayala,
Harichandrapuram and Ibrahimpatnam has been initiated with the Andhra Pradesh
Government. However, no development work on this stretch has been undertaken under Sagar Mala Scheme.
Against sanctioned project cost of Rs. 96.0 crore, a sum of Rs. 54.08 crore has been utilized till June 30th this year, the Union Minister said.
