The ship named Sea Seal broke down off the coast of Morocco approximately one month ago. Turkish captain Ayhan Can and 2 Turkish crew members on the drifting ship since that time are still awaiting rescue.
Captain Ayhan Can stated that he experienced such a situation for the first time in his approximately 30-year maritime career, explaining that the ship malfunctioned for an unknown reason, they have been stranded in the open sea for weeks, and no help has reached them. Can said, “We continue to drift. We are waiting for a helping hand to reach us.”
“There are 3 Turkish citizens there currently facing death.”
The captain’s older brother Aydın Can, who lives in the Türkeli district of Sinop, described his brother’s situation with concern, saying, “The men are so scared they don’t know what to do. They are psychologically broken. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate tomorrow. How will we find them in smoke, fog, and rain? They are screaming, ‘We are dying.’ No one hears our voice. Will we reach them only after they die? There are 3 Turkish citizens there currently facing death.”
While the condition of the other two Turkish citizens on the ship is also reported as critical, their families are urgently calling for action.
