Windmill falls off a truck blocking the Dutch A1 motorway

A section of the A1 motorway connecting the city of Amsterdam with the German border has been blocked earlier this morning as a windmill component fell of its transport unit on the Beekbergen junction.

For yet unknown reasons, at around 2:30 in the morning, the massive component got detached from its trailer and ended up on the Beekbergen interchange, closing the two connecting roads until noon at least. The convoy was on it’s way from Hangelo in the direction of Apeldoorn, on the connecting loop to the A50 in the direction of Arnhem, according to the information released by Rijkswaterstaat, part of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

Rijkswaterstaat also noted that luckily no injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Oeps…”Even die ene plaats bellen”. Beekbergen. /2bsx2FkQ6t

The authorities have diverted traffic on the sections of A1 to the regional roads until the salvage work is complete. It is expected that removing the colossus could take until noon, after which the repairs of the junction will have to be carried out.

“Given the low traffic volume, we do not expect too much disruption,” Rijkswaterstaat noted in one of its notices on social media.
