Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has been awarded adecommissioning contract by Woodside Energy covering the integrated engineering, preparation, removal and transport of riser turret mooring (RTM) from the FPSO Nganhurra
The Dutch marine contractor said the work scope involves removing the RTM from the Enfield field, located approximately 52 km northwest of Exmouth in Western Australia, by lifting the structure in one piece onto a barge and transporting the structure to Henderson or another suitable Australian port for dismantling, recycling or reuse.
Commenting on the project, Heerema chief executive Jeroen van Oosten said, “This contract represents our first decommissioning project in Australia and although Heerema has a long history of safely and sustainably removing offshore structures from the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico, we are very excited to continue our responsible decommissioning operations in Australian waters”.
Added Mr van Oosten, “The removal and subsequent reuse or recycling of offshore infrastructure is an essential final step in the lifecycle of oil and gas infrastructure and aligns with our company values of responsibility, sustainability and contributing to a circular society”.
HMC will leverage its decommissioning experience accumulated over 30 years to safely remove and recover the RTM of the FPSO Nganhurra, which was used to produce oil from the Enfield field from 2006 to 2018.
The decommissioning contract with Woodside follows the completion of the Brae Alpha West drilling rig and Brae Bravo upper main jacket removal in the North Sea on behalf of Abu Dhabi-based TAQA Group. HMC and consortium partner AF Offshore Decom removed and transported more than 12,000 tonnes of steel to the AF Offshore Decom yard in Vats, where some 95% of the structure will reused and recycled.
