Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Secures 22 New Vessels Worth $920M, Bringing 2025 New Orders to 36 Vessels Totaling $1.46B

On August 29, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings Ltd., China’s largest private shipbuilder, officially announced the latest progress on its recently signed shipbuilding contracts. According to the announcement, since August 6, 2025, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has secured orders for 22 new vessels with a total contract value of US$920 million. These vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2029.

The announcement revealed that the orders of 22 new vessels cover three categories: container vessels, gas carriers and bulk carriers. Specifically, the orders include 18 container vessels, including four 1,100 TEU container vessels, four 1,800 TEU container vessels, six 2,900 TEU container vessel, two 3,000 TEU container vessels and two 4,300 TEU container vessels; two 40,000 cubic meter liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers; and two 83,000 DWT bulk carriers.

Together with the 14 new vessels disclosed in the “Financial Results for the First Half of 2025” released by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding on August 6, as of August 29, the Shipbuilder has received 36 new vessels worth US$1.46 billion (approximately RMB 10.41 billion) so far this year, achieving approximately 24.3% of its annual order target of US$6 billion.

The previous 14 new vessels were valued at approximately US$540 million, including 8 1,700 TEU container vessels, 2 3,000 TEU container vessels, 2 4,488 TEU container vessels, and 2 83,000 dwt bulk carriers. As of August 29, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has secured orders for 30 container vessels, 2 gas carriers and 4 bulk carriers this year.

In related news, among the batch orders announced by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, the owner of the two 4,300 TEU container vessels is Euroseas, a Greek feeder container shipping company. Euroseas publicly announced this order on its official website on August 25. The newbuilds are priced at approximately US$59.25 million each, totaling around US$118.5 million. Constructed by New Yangzi Shipbuilding, they are scheduled for delivery in March and May 2028.

Although Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s order intake slowed compared to last year, total revenue remained relatively stable in the first half of this year, reaching RMB 12.9 billion (approximately US$1.809 billion). Revenue from the shipping segment reached RMB 510 million. Net profit attributable to shareholders increased 37% year-on-year to a record RMB 4.2 billion in the first half of 2025. During this period, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s shipbuilding gross profit margin reached a new high of 35%.

In view of the current shipbuilding industry market, Ren Letian, Chairman and CEO of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, said when disclosing the semi-annual results that in the first half of 2025, facing complex challenges such as global shipping market fluctuations and international policy risks, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has always been anchored on the core goal of “ensuring ship delivery, ensuring orders, and ensuring projects”. Through a series of measures including optimizing production processes, strengthening supply chain coordination, and implementing refined management practices, the company has continuously enhanced both the efficiency and quality of its shipbuilding operations.

In the first half of this year, the construction of the Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base project, with an investment of approximately RMB 3 billion, is progressing on schedule. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The first new vessel built at the plant is expected to be delivered in 2027.

The Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-Tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base project will utilize a coastline of approximately 1,320 meters and cover an area of about 1,300 mu (around 866,667 square meters). It will include one 300,000-ton shipbuilding dock, one 200,000-ton outfitting wharf, and one 100,000-ton basin, with an annual production capacity of about 800,000 deadweight tons. Once completed, it will become the main base for Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to construct its existing orders for green clean energy vessels. At present, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is actively planning and implementing new vessel orders suitable for construction at the Yangzi Hongyuan base.
