Yinson Production secures Main Scantling Approval for Meridian purpose-built FPSO hull design

Must read

On September 18, Yinson Production, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Yinson Holdings, announced on its official website that it has secured Main Scantling Approval (MSA) from DNV for its next-generation purpose-built FPSO hull design, named Meridian. The approval represents a major step for the company as it expands its capabilities beyond conversion projects into new-build floating production systems.

Designed to operate efficiently in challenging offshore environments, the Meridian FPSO hull combines low-carbon innovation with high-performance adaptability. It is engineered to support deepwater and ultra-deepwater operations, offering both strategic flexibility and substantial processing capacity suitable for immediate deployment.

The DNV-approved design underscores Yinson’s growing technical expertise and marks its first foray into purpose-built hulls. The company intends to leverage the Meridian design to target new projects in key regions such as South America and West Africa.

According to Lars Gunnar Vogt, Chief Technical Officer at Yinson Production, “The MSA achievement reflects our technical excellence and forward-looking strategy. While conversion projects remain a core part of our business, we are now positioned to offer purpose-built FPSO solutions, particularly when project requirements exceed the scope of converted units.”

The move signals Yinson’s strategic expansion within the offshore energy market, aligning with industry trends toward specialized new-build assets for complex deepwater developments.
