Zhejiang’s port and shipping economy shows significant growth in the first seven months

From the Zhejiang Provincial Port and Shipping Management Center, it was learned that from January to July, Zhejiang ports collectively achieved a cargo throughput of 1.26 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%; and a container throughput of 29.802 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 10.15%. Among them, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan handled a cargo throughput of 832 million tons and a cumulative container throughput of over 24.62 million TEUs in the first seven months, a year-on-year increase of 9.35%.

Regarding seaports, data shows that from January to July, the cargo throughput of coastal ports in Zhejiang Province exceeded 1 billion tons, and the cumulative container throughput surpassed 28.46 million TEUs. Among them, the cargo throughput of Wenzhou Port and Taizhou Port increased by 11.3% and 9.1% year-on-year respectively, while the container throughput of Jiaxing Port grew by 17.4% compared to the same period last year.

Although the volume of Zhejiang’s inland river ports is not large, they have shown strong development momentum this year. From January to July, the province’s inland river ports handled a cargo throughput of 240 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.49%; and a cumulative container throughput of 1.3384 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 18.86%.

Zhejiang’s water transport investment also achieved high growth. From January to July, the province completed a water transport investment of 26.47 billion yuan, ranking first in the country, a year-on-year increase of 26.5%; a cumulative addition of 6 new coastal berths of 10,000-ton class and above, and 32 new inland river berths of 500-ton class and above.

In terms of river-sea intermodal transport, Zhejiang completed a container river-sea intermodal transport volume of 2.068 million TEUs from January to July, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%; the number of inland river container routes increased to 84.
