Riga, 3 October (Argus) — The state oil and gas holding company “KazMunayGas” (KMG) and the American company LanzaJet will begin the detailed design of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant.
The parties have approved the feasibility study for the project to build an SAF plant in Kazakhstan and are moving to the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage, KMG announced on 22 September.
The start of SAF production in Kazakhstan is expected in 2027-2030, after large refineries switch to the production of Jet A-1 aviation fuel. The annual SAF production volume is expected to exceed 50,000 t/yr. The use of SAF is only possible when blended with Jet A-1 aviation fuel.
