“A 107% tariff on Italian pasta in the United States would have devastating consequences for Made in Italy.” This is emphasized by Coldiretti, according to which “it would double the cost of a plate of pasta for American families, paving the way for ‘Italian sounding’ products and hitting Italian companies in the sector hard.” In 2024, pasta exports to the United States reached a value of 671 million euros. “A strategic market that, with a tariff of this magnitude, would be practically wiped out, erasing years of growth and investments along the entire supply chain,” notes the association, which is launching an appeal to the Government and Europe.

“This is a scenario that must be averted, and the action of the Government, with Ministers Lollobrigida and Tajani, together with ICE, is important,” emphasizes the president of Coldiretti, Ettore Prandini. “We must defend and enhance the pasta supply chain, in the US as in Italy, so as not to sell off one of our symbolic excellences. Just as we demand a fair price for Italian wheat, we believe it is essential to guarantee a fair value for pasta. The American dumping accusations are unacceptable and instrumental to Trump’s plan to move production to the United States.”

Coldiretti calls on the Italian Government and the European Union to “act decisively to protect a product that is not just a food, but a true symbol of the Mediterranean Diet and Italian agri-food identity. At stake are the quality, work, and reputation of an entire supply chain that represents Italy in the world.”
