Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) incorporated a new 11,400 TEU dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) container ship, the MSC Procida, which was launched from the facilities of New Times Shipyard (NTS).
“The new ship, named after an island in the Gulf of Naples, is the fourth unit in a series of ten dual-fuel (LNG) vessels designed by Sdari that MSC will receive from the Chinese shipyard until mid-2026,” Alphaliner stated.
“In addition to the ten Sdari-designed vessels from NTS, MSC will also receive ten very similarly sized vessels designed by CIMC-ORIC, built at the Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard (ZCIS),” it added.
The MSC Procida has a length of 335 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a deadweight of 131 thousand tons, and a maximum draft of 15.5 meters. It is powered by a MAN B&W type 6G90ME C10.5-GI-EcoEGR engine that delivers approximately 25,000 kW; the ships in this series can reach speeds close to 20 knots.
MSC ordered the series of 11,400 TEU vessels in mid-2022 for an undisclosed price. The previous launch was that of the MSC Müge, which took place at the end of September of this year.
The MSC Procida will begin its commercial service on the Far East-West Coast of South America (WCSA) route, which MSC (Aztec) operates in partnership with Hapag-Lloyd and Ocean Network Express (ONE).
