Naviera Puelche obtained the seal for Quantification of its Carbon Footprint, part of the “Huella Chile” program of the Ministry of the Environment, joining Naviera Austral and Transmarchilay, which achieved it for the second consecutive year. This is one of the first voluntary instances dedicated to incentivizing the active participation of the private sector in mitigating climate change.

This recognition, which is delivered by the Ministry of the Environment, distinguishes public and private organizations that operate in Chile and that actively commit to the management and reduction of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The three companies belong to the CPT Group and are dedicated to the transport of passengers and cargo, connecting the continent with the isolated areas of Chile.

César Hechenleitner, general manager of connectivity at CPT, stated that “obtaining this seal demonstrates our commitment to having substantial information endorsed and recognized by the Ministry of the Environment through the Huella Chile program. With this, we can manage the impact of our value chain and continue improving.”

“The management work must have a base year for the quantification of the corporate Carbon Footprint. With this background, comparisons can be made between periods and carbon management points can be found, which is why the same seal is held for at least two consecutive periods,” commented Selma Cea, sustainability specialist at CPT Empresas Marítimas.

“With this certification, every person who travels on a CPT vessel can have the confidence that they are traveling with a company that is environmentally conscious and is working to become more environmentally friendly,” said Hechenleitner.

Huella Chile requires the quantification of three scopes. The first corresponds to the fuel directly spent in the operation, the second is the consumption of electrical energy, and the third are all the services used to carry out the service provided.
