BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) — China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) production and sales reached 1.32 million and 1.344 million units respectively in April 2026, up 5.5 percent and 9.7 percent year on year, with NEV sales accounting for 53.2 percent of total new car sales, according to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on Sunday.
Overall, in the first four months, automobile production and sales reached 9.614 million and 9.574 million units respectively, of which NEV production and sales reached 4.285 million and 4.304 million units; automobile exports reached 3.127 million units, up 61.5 percent year on year, of which NEV exports reached 1.384 million units, up 1.2 times year on year.
Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of CAAM, analyzed that in April, China’s automobile production and sales declined slightly compared with the same period last year, and the cumulative decline in production and sales further narrowed. “A series of recent policy measures have sent positive signals, which will help improve the domestic auto market, consolidate foreign trade advantages, and promote stable industry operation and high-quality development.”
