At least nine seafarers were kidnapped in an ambush led by pirates on a gas tanker off the coast of Equatorial Guinea.
The incident, reported by Lloyd’s List, occurred aboard the CGas Saturn, a merchant vessel flying a Portuguese flag owned by the Danish company Christiana Shipping.
The company informed the London-based magazine that the priority is to establish contact with the missing crew in order to ensure their prompt release.
According to the details provided by the shipping company, there were 13 sailors on board the gas tanker at the time of the attack. Nine were taken hostage and four remained on board. Among them, one reportedly suffered minor injuries and received initial medical treatment.
The ship was on its way to Malabo, a port city located on the northern coast of Bioko Island.
Pirate attacks in the Gulf of Guinea have intensified over the last ten years. Between January and September 2025, 15 incidents were recorded in the region; three more compared to the 12 recorded in the same period last year.
