Hyundai Glovis has signed a contract with HD Hyundai subsidiary Avikus to retrofit seven Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) with the HiNAS Control autonomous navigation system, following a successful trial of the technology.

The agreement marks the first fleet-wide deployment of the AI-powered system on PCTCs. Installations are expected to be completed by mid-2026 and will include hardware and software integration, onboard commissioning, and crew training.

HiNAS Control combines sensor data with AI-based algorithms to support collision avoidance, route optimisation and track control, with the goal of improving safety, fuel efficiency, and operational decision-making.

A pilot programme in 2024 demonstrated fuel savings of up to 3.9%, which the company says was verified through onboard data analysis and contributed to Hyundai Glovis’ decision to adopt the system as part of its wider ESG and digital transformation strategy.

“Embracing AI is central to Hyundai Glovis’ vision of a smarter, global logistics network that meets environmental standards,” said Jungsuk Kim, VP, Shipping Division, Hyundai Glovis.

“The positive operational and verified improvements in fuel efficiency and route optimisation during pilot operations led us to adopt HiNAS Control across seven PCTCs. This retrofit aims to improve safety and efficiency and contribute to reduced carbon emissions in vehicle logistics.”
