Beihai Shipbuilding officially launches large packaging for shop primer in the 4.5-meter steel plate pretreatment line.

On June 30, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Beihai Shipbuilding held a commissioning ceremony for the large-scale packaging of shop primer at the 4.5-meter steel plate pretreatment line in its hull pretreatment workshop. Attendees included Sun Renxing, General Manager of Xiamen Sunrui, Sun Shumeng, Deputy General Manager of Beihai Shipbuilding, and representatives from the procurement department, ship research institute, production management department, hull engineering department, facility support department, and safety and environmental department.

The newly adopted large-scale shop primer packaging replaces traditional 20-liter iron or plastic drums with 800–1000-liter reusable stainless steel containers. Paired with an intelligent two-component mixing system, the process—from primer proportioning and mixing to steel plate spraying—is now fully enclosed and automated. Once the primer in a stainless steel container is depleted, the container is returned directly to the manufacturer for cleaning and quality inspection. After passing rigorous checks, it is refilled and put back into circulation.

The implementation of large-scale shop primer packaging marks a dual breakthrough for Beihai Shipbuilding in green and intelligent manufacturing. Economically, the shift from small to large packaging reduces direct procurement costs for shop primer by approximately 2.4% per ship. Based on an annual production of 20 ships, this translates to a reduction of about 11 tons of primer usage per year, delivering tangible cost savings and efficiency gains. Environmentally, the reusable large containers cut hazardous waste disposal by roughly 7.5 tons annually while significantly reducing VOC emissions from traditional paint mixing areas, accelerating the company’s transition to eco-friendly operations. In terms of smart production, the automated proportioning and spraying system eliminates manual mixing, reducing labor intensity while enhancing safety, productivity, and management efficiency by preventing issues like primer misappropriation or loss.

The launch of large-scale shop primer packaging on the 4.5-meter steel plate pretreatment line exemplifies Beihai Shipbuilding’s commitment to green and intelligent development. It reflects the company’s efforts to refine lean shipbuilding practices, improve management efficiency, and actively build a “Green Beihai, Smart Beihai, Innovative Beihai.”
