At a ceremony held at Hapag-Lloyd’s headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of Everllence, formally presented a commemorative plaque to Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Maximilian Rothkopf to celebrate the company’s order of the Everllence B&W ME-GI dual-fuel engine—the 1,000th ME-GI engine ordered in the market. This milestone 7G95ME-GI engine will be installed in a container ship under construction by Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., with hull number #1721.

Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, stated: “We are deeply honored to achieve this significant milestone together with our strategic partner Everllence. The order for the 1,000th ME-GI engine underscores our steadfast commitment to decarbonizing global supply chains. The adoption of innovative dual-fuel technologies like ME-GI is a crucial step in our strategy to build a low-emission fleet and will strongly support our ambition to drive the industry toward sustainable transformation.”

Dr. Lauber remarked: “The ME-GI engine is highly favored in the container shipping sector, so it is fitting that an industry leader like Hapag-Lloyd has placed the 1,000th order. As the shipping industry moves toward net-zero emissions, pioneers are needed to lead the change, and Hapag-Lloyd is setting an example by taking concrete actions to advance the industry toward a more sustainable future.”

Lauber further emphasized: “ME-GI engine orders will see significant growth in 2025, thanks to methane being an ideal transitional fuel in the shipping industry’s decarbonization journey. With its market-leading energy efficiency, mature and reliable technology, and the industry’s lowest methane slip rate, the ME-GI engine has become the preferred dual-fuel methane solution for the shipping industry.”

Since its launch in 2014, the ME-GI engine has been widely adopted across various shipping segments, establishing itself as an industry benchmark.
