On June 23, the first 10,800-unit dual-fuel car carrier built by CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSI) in collaboration with CSSC Trading for GLOVIS (Hyundai Glovis Co., Ltd., South Korea) commenced construction.
Developed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, the vessel measures 230 meters in length, 40 meters in beam, and has a structural draft of 10.5 meters. It adopts a dual-fuel power propulsion system, equipped with a shaft generator and solar photovoltaic power generation system, balancing environmental protection and efficiency while meeting the International Maritime Organization Tier I emission standards. The ship features 14 car decks, of which 5 are adjustable movable decks, capable of flexibly loading diverse cargo such as electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy trucks. The maximum single-ship car-carrying capacity reaches 10,800 units, with a total length exceeding 50 kilometers if lined up end to end. The vessel is equipped with 16 sets of hydraulic-powered movable ramps and 2 layers of hydraulic movable decks, significantly enhancing loading efficiency and stability, catering to global automotive trade demands.
It is reported that GSI has secured orders for over 40 car carriers, including 14 of the 10,800-unit dual-fuel type. All 26 car carriers delivered to date have been completed ahead of the contractual delivery schedule.
