The agreement also includes development in the digitalization sector
Shanghai – The Port of Barcelona and the Shanghai International Port Group have signed an agreement to strengthen connections between the two ports and share new practices in the fields of digitalization and decarbonization of maritime transport. The agreement was signed by the president of the Port of Barcelona, José Alberto Carbonell, and his counterpart at SIPG, Song Xiaodong, during the Catalan port’s visit to the Shanghai port.
The agreement aims to consolidate relations between the two ports, strengthening cooperation with Shanghai, the world’s leading container port and a benchmark for automation and environmental sustainability. Among the main objectives are enhancing port and maritime services between Barcelona and Shanghai, developing smart and sustainable solutions in digitalization and decarbonization, as well as participating in joint training programs in areas such as port management and security.
A key project of the agreement is the development of a Green Shipping and Digital Corridor between the ports of Shanghai and Barcelona, which involves maritime routes operated by vessels powered by renewable energy and the creation of the necessary infrastructure and regulations for supplying these low-emission fuels in both ports. The goal is to offer carbon-neutral maritime services between the Far East and the Mediterranean.
