The first phase of the renovation works on the dock between the Gamazo esplanade and Los Peligros beach has been inaugurated, transforming this area into a modern, accessible, and functional space while extending the city’s seaside promenade. The mayor of the city, Gema Igual, and the president of the Port of Santander, César Díaz, attended the inauguration, accompanied by the Councilor for Development, Agustín Navarro. The first part of the project included the demolition of existing pavements and the installation of new brushed concrete surfaces, which are anti-slip and highly durable.

Additionally, a dedicated bike lane marked by color has been added, landscaped areas with over 150 trees have been created, rest zones with benches, sun loungers, and stepped platforms have been established, and LED streetlights, urban furniture, and soft-surface play areas for children have been installed. “This intervention has allowed us to reclaim an underutilized stretch of coastline, creating a modern, accessible, and safe promenade that connects the city with the sea and improves the quality of life for residents and visitors,” commented the mayor of Santander, Gema Igual.

For his part, César Díaz noted that “this project demonstrates the strong collaboration between local and port authorities to promote port-city integration. Our goal is to enhance spaces that are no longer productive for the port,” stated the president of the Port of Santander. The first phase involved the demolition of existing pavements covering 4,828 square meters to make way for more modern and functional solutions.
