China News Network, Duchang, Jiangxi, September 4 (Reporter Wu Pengquan) A reporter learned on the 4th from Jiangxi Duchang Shipbuilding General Factory Co., Ltd. that the company has currently completed the replacement of over 30 old vessels, upgrading them to new energy-powered ships, directly driving the green transformation of the local shipbuilding industry.
On the slipways of Duchang Shipbuilding General Factory Co., Ltd., machines roar and sparks fly as cutting torches emit flames, causing the steel plates of old ships to crack open. Workers operate crane arms to precisely place the dismantled scrap steel onto transport vehicles, and the rust-streaked skeletons of the old ships are gradually deconstructed amidst the sounds of mechanical operations.
“According to the large-scale equipment renewal policy in the transportation sector of Jiangxi Province, subsidies for ship ‘replacement of old with new’ range from 700 to 1,000 yuan per gross ton based on the ship’s age and type, and the subsidies are directly issued to shipowners,” said Shen Changjiu, production manager of Duchang Shipbuilding General Factory Co., Ltd. Since multiple departments in Jiangxi jointly issued the “Action Plan for Large-Scale Equipment Renewal in the Transportation Sector of Jiangxi Province” in 2024, the company’s order volume has surged. “In the first half of this year alone, we received orders worth 230 million yuan from within the province.”
Duchang County, described by the Song Dynasty literary giant Su Dongpo as “Duchang County on Poyang Lake,” possesses one-third of the waters of Poyang Lake. The local shipbuilding industry has a solid foundation, with great potential and broad prospects for development and expansion. In recent years, the county has accelerated the promotion of intelligent and green transformation and upgrading of shipbuilding enterprises.
Taking Duchang Shipbuilding General Factory Co., Ltd. as an example, as a key manufacturing enterprise in Duchang County, the company has cumulatively invested 50 million yuan in technological transformation in recent years, vigorously exploring new avenues and actively accepting orders for green shipbuilding.
Shen Xigui, chairman of Duchang Shipbuilding General Factory Co., Ltd., stated that by 2025, the company has already received orders for 14 ships, including 7 new energy vessels, and it is expected that nearly 90 ships will participate in the old-for-new replacement business throughout the year.
“We are increasing investment in technological transformation, continuously innovating production processes, and transitioning towards digitalization, intelligence, and greenization, focusing on improving shipbuilding standards,” said Shen Changjiu, pointing to the company’s planning diagram. (End)
