Liberia-flagged Odysseus was boarded by members of the maritime police and navy off the Algarve

PORTUGUESE forces have boarded a containership after it reported the presence of non-crew members on board.

The Liberia-flagged, 2,824 teu Odysseus (IMO: 9315824) was en route from Cartagena, Colombia to Vigo, Spain when it alerted the Portuguese Maritime Traffic Control Centre of the incident at 2300 hrs on September 3. Odysseus is owned by Greece-based Cosmoship.

Once the vessel entered Portuguese territorial waters, the captain of the port of Portimao deployed the maritime police and requested the support of the Portuguese navy. A team made up of both entities successfully boarded the vessel on the morning of September 4 and secured it.

Odysseus arrived at the Portuguese port of Sines at around 2240 hrs on September 4.
