After a complex and prolonged bureaucratic process, United Task Management has obtained the twenty-year concession for an area of 11,160 square meters located on the rear part of Calata V of the port of Taranto. This achievement paves the way for the creation of an innovative project cargo terminal, conceived as a specialized hub for the assembly, packaging, and shipment of large industrial plants.
The initiative, promoted by Mauro Carriglio, CEO of Utm, and by the partner and general director Gianluca Fortunato, responds to the growing demand for specialized logistics for exceptional loads. The hub has the possibility to dock ro-ro on large-sized cargo given the only 20 mt. of quay and seabeds from 12-14 mt. which will soon become 16 with new dredging works. “U.T.M. Hub is preparing to become a reference industrial hub with a complete service for the assembly of large industrial systems, offshore, petrochemical and, as recently indicated by an interministerial decree, it is part of the main site of Taranto for wind turbine plant activities,” the CEO explains to SHIPING ITALY, adding: “The Utm Hub industrial hub will provide all complementary activities from engineering, to supply, security services and quality control, specialized packaging by the lead company Emme-Erre srl, also thanks to important agreements with supplier companies, specialized handling and maritime agency all aimed at providing every customer need.”
The obtaining of the concession came at the end of a process that lasted about five years, characterized by challenges and bureaucratic obstacles. Mauro Carriglio described the process as “extremely heavy,” which required significant economic and physical sacrifices. Critical issues such as the “hydrogeological compatibility of the area” and the contamination of a portion of the site, detected only at an advanced stage of the process, delayed the start of the project.
To this was added the temporary block of the concession due to the quay restoration works, a necessary interruption that further postponed operations. Despite the difficulties, the company persevered, also thanks to the intervention of the Ministry of the Environment which allowed the situation to be unblocked and the Zes authorization to be obtained in June 2024.
With the concession obtained last August, United Task Management has started, facing “considerable expenses,” drilling works and laboratory analysis to complete the characterization and finishing of the area.
Carriglio expressed strong thanks to the partners, in particular to the president Barbato Martiniello, to Rachele Peluso, CEO of Emme-Erre, an investor partner introduced to support a large part of the expenses, Gianluca Fortunato, Franco Palmieri and Dario Denis Carriglio. He also sincerely thanked the new Commissioner of the Adsp, Giovanni Gugliotti, for his support and encouragement and “also for the actions he is taking to bring the port of Taranto to the levels it deserves by incentivizing the attention of the Government and international Clients” and he underlined the need to attract “green” investments for the economic and social revival of Taranto.
The company, informs Mauro Carriglio, is open to new partnerships and invites investors to join this project which aims to become a reference point for the port industry.
