With a move that is being called revolutionary in the field of clean energy transport, EcoLog Ltd. and Gas and Heat Spa have joined forces to accelerate the development of the world’s first commercial-scale liquefied hydrogen (LH2) supply chain. “This historic collaboration – states a note – is set to revolutionize the way LH2 is stored, managed, and transported across continents, promoting the global hydrogen economy.”
Gas and Heat, a leader in cryogenic gas infrastructure, and EcoLog, an operator active in midstream solutions for LH2, are laying the groundwork for an integrated logistics network that will connect liquid hydrogen producers in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe with major demand centers via specialized seaborne transport vessels.
“This collaboration marks a fundamental step in accelerating the global adoption of liquefied hydrogen as a sustainable energy source” said Ellen Ruhotas, CEO of EcoLog. “Together with Gas and Heat, we are developing cutting-edge technologies that will enable scalable and efficient transport of LH2, bringing cleaner energy solutions to key markets worldwide.”
The agreement focuses on three key innovations: next-generation LH2 containment and handling systems for seagoing and river vessels, state-of-the-art LH2 storage tanks for export and import terminals, innovative LH2 applications leveraging Gas and Heat’s proprietary technology.
The collaboration will enable the shipment of liquefied hydrogen on commercial-sized vessels to EcoLog’s next energy terminal in the port of Amsterdam.
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore has granted Gas and Heat an approval in principle (AiP) for the LH2 containment system for vessels and the onshore storage plant.
“Innovation drives progress and this collaboration with EcoLog represents a significant step forward” said Mauro Evangelisti, President of Gas and Heat. “Our deep expertise in cryogenic gas management allows us to design high-performance LH2 solutions that will power the global energy transition.”
The two companies in question finally emphasize that, with hydrogen positioned as a key clean fuel for decarbonization, this partnership marks a milestone for sustainable energy markets worldwide.
