Shipping news, Greek pure-play Capesize shipowner Seanergy announced the sale of one Capesize bulk carrier, realizing a profit and reducing the proportion of older vessels in its fleet.

Specifically, Seanergy sold the 2010-built, 170,058 DWT “Geniuship”, which was approaching its special survey, to an unaffiliated buyer for $21.6 million.

Seanergy disclosed that the “Geniuship”, acquired in 2015, was delivered to the new owner on September 15, 2025. This transaction generated approximately $12 million in net cash proceeds, is expected to result in a book gain of $2.5 million, and simultaneously avoided upcoming dry-docking costs.

Stamatis Tsantanis, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Seanergy, stated, “We are pleased to announce the timely sale of the 15-year-old ‘Geniuship’, taking advantage of favorable valuation conditions. This sale was completed ahead of its upcoming dry-docking, saving Seanergy significant capital expenditure.”

He noted that this positive sale is fully aligned with its fleet renewal strategy while enhancing liquidity and profitability.

As of now, the Nasdaq-listed Seanergy still owns 20 Capesize bulk carriers, totaling 3.63 million DWT, with an average age of 14.3 years.

Meanwhile, United Maritime, a sister company spun off from Seanergy, sold the 2005-built, 177,536 DWT “GOODSHIP” for approximately $15.4 million. This transaction resulted in net cash proceeds of $8.2 million and a book profit of about $0.6 million.

Stamatis Tsantanis, Chief Executive Officer of United Maritime, stated that the sale of the “GOODSHIP” signifies its complete exit from operating older vessels, leaving behind a younger, leaner, and more commercially competitive fleet. United Maritime currently owns 5 vessels, comprising 2 Kamsarmax and 3 Panamax vessels, with a total carrying capacity of 396,000 DWT.
