Grief in the port of Piraeus, as the beloved sailor Stelios Passakos passed away. The news spread emotion throughout the shipping community, as Stelios was for decades an active and beloved member of crews, serving the sea with respect and heart.
In the port of Piraeus, a bad message was heard.
Stelios Passakos hurried to cast off the mooring lines and go to meet his brother, Panagiotis.
Panagiotis Passakos was the soul of the “MELOS EXPRESS” of Stathakis-Manousos.
Stelios had said about his brother that “he was the best bosun of the coastal shipping.”
The two brothers, originating from Elafonisos, followed the path of the sea.
Stelios Passakos served for years on the “MIAOULIS” where Captain-Panagis Papadatos was the master.
About this man he had told us “Captain-Panagis was a gallant sailor, a skilled seaman and a good man with the soul of a small child.”
These words could also describe Stelios himself.
In 1987, he was a steward on the “KARAISKAKIS” on cruises from Spain and Lisbon to Morocco.
His career was linked with the ships of the Agapetos and the ships of Captain-Makis of Agoudimos.
He served on the “NIREFS” of the great barren line.
The “DALIANA” is the ship with which he was closely tied.
He also served on the “MAR JULIA” and certainly on many more ships that we do not know about.
In recent years he served on the “Taxiarchis” of NEL.
On several ships, he served with Captain-Sideris Mamidis.
He was a man who loved ships and their people.
Many times he told us about ships he had traveled on, which we did not know he had served on.
He had great love for sailors.
A great traveler who found his Ithaca in Nea Peramos.
