According to Trump, a deal was reached on Wednesday night that will mean the release of the Israeli hostages. If the peace plan is implemented, there is a prospect of a normalization of the situation in the Red Sea.

Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas have, according to Trump, approved the first part of the peace deal, which paves the way for an end to the war in Gaza.

This could also mean there is a prospect that the Houthi rebels, who support Hamas, will stop their attacks on shipping in the area in and around the Red Sea.

Thus, the crisis, which has now been ongoing for 686 days, could be nearing its end and traffic through the Suez Canal could be resumed.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has intensified the dialogue with the major shipping companies and at a meeting between the SCA’s chairman, Osama Rabie, and Denmark’s ambassador to Egypt, Lars Bo Møller, urged Maersk to gradually resume sailing through the Suez Canal, writes Daily News Egypt.

However, it will likely be some time before the major shipping companies return to the Suez Canal. The world is still waiting to see if the parties actually carry out the first step of the peace agreement – and then follow up by taking the next ones.
