The Greek group led by the Kollakis family is expanding its newbuilding program with 3,100 teu ships, consolidating its presence in the sector

Athens – The Greek company Chartworld Shipping, controlled by the Kollakis family, has strengthened its newbuilding program in the containership segment, signing an agreement with the Chinese shipyard Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding for the construction of four 3,100 teu ships, with an option for four more. The first deliveries are expected in 2028. According to sources in the shipbroking sector, this is a targeted expansion strategy, following a similar order made in July 2025 at New Dayang Shipbuilding, also for two firm units plus two optional ones with the same technical characteristics and delivery date. With an estimated price of 42 million dollars per ship, the full series could lead Chartworld to manage up to 12 modern 3,100 teu containerships, if all options are exercised. The initiative also represents the company’s decisive return to the newbuilding segment, after a period of pause that began in 2021, when it had ordered four 13,288 teu ships, two of which were then chartered to Hapag-Lloyd and the remaining ones sold to the same German company.
Currently, Chartworld owns 13 containerships, including the Cma Cgm Africa Two, a 3,718 teu ship built in 2010, and also operates a diversified fleet that includes tankers and bulk carriers.
These new orders confirm the company’s growing interest in the container market, focusing on modern, medium-sized ships, ideal for regional routes and feeder services.
