The zero-emission energy solutions provider for the maritime industry Corvus Energy received DNV cybersecurity certification for its Dolphin NxtGen battery energy storage system (BESS), which also covers the BMS Gen 4 pack controller, extending cybersecurity compliance to the entire NxtGen product family.

The certification confirms that Corvus systems meet the strict cybersecurity requirements set out in DNV classification rules and validates that the company’s ESS solutions are designed to protect critical onboard energy infrastructure against constantly evolving cyber threats throughout their entire lifecycle.

The approval follows a thorough independent assessment of more than 50 cybersecurity capabilities, including secure system architecture, access control, data integrity, and secure remote software and firmware updates. The certification also covers data collection and monitoring through the Corvus Lighthouse platform, which supports real-time diagnostics and advanced analytics.

In today’s volatile geopolitical environment, cyberattacks targeting maritime infrastructure are on the rise. As vessels become more connected, the risk of unauthorized access or disruption of operations grows. Energy storage systems, critical for vessel safety and propulsion, are particularly vulnerable.

Corvus ESS solutions are designed to prevent third parties from using the ESS as a gateway to the vessel’s network. Through encrypted communication, secure remote service, and strict access management, Corvus helps shipowners ensure operational continuity and maintain system integrity.

“Cybersecurity is now as fundamental to maritime safety as the hardware itself. This approval from DNV confirms that our energy storage systems are not only designed to deliver performance and reliability, but are also built to withstand the digital threats facing modern vessels. It reflects our long-term commitment to delivering future-proof solutions that our customers can trust,” said Fredrik Witte, CEO of Corvus Energy.

This new approval adds to the cybersecurity certification already granted to the Corvus Orca ESS by DNV and other classification societies, such as ABS, Bureau Veritas (BV) and RINA, demonstrating a consistent and classification society-recognized cybersecurity approach across the product range. Currently, Corvus is seeking cybersecurity certifications for its entire product range.
