Nicolosi Trasporti, a Catania-based transport and logistics company, has taken over the logistics centers of Aligrup, the former owner of Despar supermarkets in eastern Sicily and Palermo, which went bankrupt in 2012.
This is reported by LiveSicilia, to which the news was confirmed directly by the CEO of the company Gaetano Nicolosi. At the moment, it is not clear how many assets are involved, nor are their location or other characteristics known. However, the company’s top management told the Sicilian publication that Nicolosi has “confirmed all the orders” and that “none of the 120 workers will be laid off.” According to LiveSicilia, the operation has a value of 15 million euros.
In May, it also emerged that Nicolosi Trasporti would take over the management of non-food logistics for Eurospin in Catania, absorbing the 212 workers of the plant, who were under contract with the outgoing contractor Global Service. It is not clear whether this news is in some way connected to that concerning the activities of Aligrup.
It is also worth remembering that in 2025 Nicolosi Trasporti finally scored another highly significant operation for the Sicilian context and beyond, acquiring 70.22% of the shares of Blutec, that is, the former Fiat area in Termini Imerese, joined in the operation by the Comiso cooperative Caec with 19.78%. More precisely, Nicolosi Trasporti and Caec acquired their respective shares through the subscription of a capital increase, an operation that had led Pelligra Australia Pty Ltd – the Italo-Australian group of entrepreneur Ross Pelligra, a specialist in the conversion and redevelopment of industrial areas, which had secured the former plant a few months earlier by winning the tender from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy – to drop to 10%. According to what was illustrated by Mimit at the time of the signing, Pelligra Holding Italia Srl had proposed a “real estate conversion project aimed at creating a high-tech industrial district for /manufacturing use,” as part of a broader plan to relaunch the Termini Imerese hub. Observers attribute Nicolosi’s interest in the site mainly to the area’s potential as a possible logistics hub, serving the nearby Termini Imerese port.
