On October 11, Veolia China officially signed the “Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Green Fuel Supply” with Shanghai Port Group Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and VENEX Co., Ltd., joining hands to create a comprehensive green methanol supply and distribution network and jointly build a full-process green fuel supply ecosystem from production to bunkering.

According to the agreement, the three parties will leverage Veolia’s expertise in local decarbonized energy solutions and its global decarbonization experience, Shanghai Port Group’s leading advantages in port energy infrastructure, and VENEX’s professional knowledge in green methanol production and operation to jointly build a comprehensive green methanol supply and distribution network, establishing an end-to-end green fuel supply ecosystem from production to marine bunkering.

Through the synergistic development of the green methanol industry chain, this cooperation will provide sustainable fuel solutions for port and shipping enterprises, gradually reduce the industry’s reliance on traditional fossil fuels, promote the deep transition of the port and shipping industry towards low-carbon development, and assist in forming a green and low-carbon industrial ecosystem in the transportation sector.

Ms. Estelle Brachlianoff, Global President of Veolia, stated: “Veolia is pleased to support the Port of Shanghai in becoming a global leader in the supply of sustainable green fuels, leveraging advanced technology and mature experience to assist in the decarbonization process of the port and shipping industry. This cooperation fully aligns with the goals of Veolia’s GreenUp strategy for developing local energy resources and providing cutting-edge environmental solutions.”

Mr. Yang Zhiyong, Vice President of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd., pointed out: “As an industry leader in China’s port energy infrastructure, Shanghai Port Group Energy will take this strategic cooperation as an important opportunity to work with Veolia and VENEX to build a green fuel supply system covering the entire industrial chain. We are committed to establishing the Port of Shanghai as a benchmark demonstration base for green fuel application, providing solid support for China’s port and shipping industry to achieve the ‘Dual Carbon’ goals.”

Mr. Huang Weiyi, Chairman of VENEX, stated: “Leveraging its profound professional expertise in green methanol production technology and operational management, VENEX will deeply integrate into the construction of the green fuel full industrial chain ecosystem. We will work hand in hand with Veolia and Shanghai Port Group Energy to systematically advance the construction of the green methanol supply chain and sales service network, contributing professional strength to the deep transformation and upgrading of the port and shipping industry towards low-carbon sustainable development.”

Mr. Gu Jinshan, President of the China Ports & Harbours Association, expressed high recognition for this cooperation, stating: “Promoting the application of clean fuels like green methanol is a key path to achieving the ‘Dual Carbon’ goals in the port and shipping industry. This tripartite cooperation, by integrating global environmental resources with the advantages of local port infrastructure, will significantly enhance the green fuel supply guarantee capability of the Port of Shanghai. It also provides a practical and replicable example for the low-carbon transition of the port and shipping industry in China and globally.”

Ms. Gu Lihua, CEO of Veolia China; Mr. Luo Wenbin, Chairman and General Manager of Shanghai Port Group Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; and Mr. Cen Wenhui, Chief Executive Officer of VENEX, signed the cooperation agreement. Ms. Estelle Brachlianoff, Chief Executive Officer of Veolia Group; Mr. Gu Jinshan, President of the China Ports & Harbours Association; and Mr. Huang Weiyi, Chairman of VENEX, witnessed the entire signing ceremony.
