The Navy Secretariat, through the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine of Mexico (CGPMM), announced that Captain Manuel Fernando Gutiérrez Gallardo delivered the appointment to the new Director General of Ports, Captain María Marisa Abarca Hernández, who returns to the position she held in 2022.
The entity highlighted that Captain Abarca completed her studies at the Tampico Merchant Nautical School, in addition to having a Specialty in Educational Institution Management from the Panamerican University and possesses more than 30 years of experience in the Merchant Marine in the areas of maritime transport and ports.
Since 2007, the maritime professional has held operational and decision-making positions in the Federal Public Administration, in Port Administrations and Terminals; as Head of the Maritime Traffic Control Center, Protection Officer, Loading Master, and has also sailed on various merchant vessels, in international and coastal navigation.
Regarding the Navy Secretariat, Abarca – previously – Executive Director of Priority Maritime Port Projects, assigned to the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine, and in the General Directorate of Ports itself in a previous period, serving as responsible for the powers as Port Authority along the more than 11,000 kilometers of coastline in Mexico, 103 ports, and 15 authorized Terminals. Her last assignment was as Director of Business Development for the Americas at Boluda Towage, a leading company in maritime transport and port towing services.
