The Federal Port Authority of Bahía (Codeba) will administer the Port of Itajaí until the creation of the new federal public company Docas de Santa Catarina.

The announcement of the administrative transition was made by the National Secretary of Ports, Alex Ávila, during an official visit to the city. This measure marks the beginning of a new stage of expansion, autonomy, and institutional strengthening.

“Yesterday I received a call from Minister Silvio Costa Filho with this request and, next week, the Codeba board will meet with the team from the Ministry of Ports and Airports, with the Executive Secretary Tomé Franca, the National Secretary Alex Ávila, and representatives from the Port Authority of Itajaí to discuss the details of the transition,” revealed the President of the Federal Port Authority of Bahía, Antonio Gobbo.

According to Alex Ávila, the creation of the new public company is part of a broader process aimed at guaranteeing the independence and autonomy of the Port of Itajaí, strengthening its management capacity, and expanding strategic investments.

“This matter is part of a process linked to the creation of the public company, precisely to guarantee the independence of the Port of Itajaí. The decision to have an independent port is from the Federal Government. When we linked the Port to the Government, it was with the purpose of guaranteeing management autonomy, increasing investments, and strengthening its operations, and that is precisely what we are doing,” explained the authority.

Furthermore, the secretary pointed out that the creation of Docas “is an absolute priority for the Ministry of Ports. We have the desire and guidance from our entire government to reach this conclusion as soon as possible. These are detailed and technical steps, but I assure you we will strive to complete them as soon as possible.”

Among the announced measures is the progress in the concession of the access channel to the Port of Itajaí, a project that is already under review at the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). The initiative is part of the federal public policy of granting access channels to the private sector, aiming to improve service quality, guarantee continuous dredging, and increase operational efficiency.

“Dredging is a vital issue for the Port of Itajaí. With the concession model, we will guarantee its execution within the proper deadlines and standards. We are also working on the definitive lease of the Container Terminal, whose technical studies are in the final phase of completion,” emphasized the secretary.

“With the creation of the new public company, the Port of Itajaí will have more autonomy, more investments, and better conditions to continue generating employment, income, and competitiveness for Santa Catarina and Brazil,” concluded Alex Ávila.
