With a capacity of 24,346 TEU, the MSC giant docked at the SAPT terminal in Karachi, surpassing the record held by the MSC Oscar
Karachi – The MSC Micol, with a capacity of 24,346 TEU, has become the largest container ship ever to call in Pakistan, setting a new milestone for the port of Karachi. Measuring 399.9 meters in length and 61.3 meters in width, the ship follows the standard MGX24 design, characterized by 24 rows of containers in length and 24 in width. The arrival of the Micol surpassed the previous record set by the MSC Oscar, a 19,224 TEU ship, which had called at Karachi in January 2025. The unit was handled by the South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPT), an infrastructure operated by Hutchison Port Holdings, and was deployed for a single voyage on MSC’s weekly Shikra service, which connects the Far East with India. Along with its five sister ships, the Micol falls into the category of the world’s largest container ships, confirming the expansion of global maritime traffic also towards emerging ports like that of Karachi.
