Hydrexia Holding Limited completed the first maritime shipment of itinerant hydrogen from Kuching to Singapore and Hong Kong, using a solid-state metal hydride hydrogen storage container (MHX).

“The first batch of the maritime export shipment, carried out with Hydrexia’s MHX container, marks a great advancement in regional hydrogen trade and highlights the commercial viability of its transport via regional maritime routes. This shipment also marks a milestone in the commercialization of the MHX product and has profound significance for defining the future of maritime hydrogen trade,” the firm stated.

With innovative, industry-leading solid-state magnesium-based technology, integrated into a standardized 20-foot, ton-scale container, MHX offers greater storage capacity, lower cost, and higher density, among other characteristics.

“We are pleased to observe the growing market acceptance of our magnesium-based solid-state product, with increased customer uptake in different regions. The shipment clearly demonstrates our ability to expand the business into new regional markets and monetize our MHX,” stated Alex Fang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hydrexia.

“SEDCE continuously collaborates with stakeholders and relevant bodies concerning new energies, and we are confident that the transport of clean hydrogen molecules via MHX is the future. This proof of concept (PoC) represents a crucial milestone as we advance commercial negotiations with potential buyers. By successfully completing this PoC, we seek to strengthen confidence in the product’s reliability and scalability. Together with the upcoming tour, this initiative will open new market opportunities for Sarawak in the global hydrogen transport value chain,” argued Robert Hardin, Chief Executive Officer of Sedce.
