The South Dock of the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the first supply of liquefied natural gas -LNG- to a cruise ship, a service that until now has been carried out exclusively at the Tenerife Cruise Terminal, which represents a significant expansion of its operational capacity and greater service flexibility.
The cruise ship that will benefit from this service will be the Mein Schiff Relax, the first ship of the InTUItion class from the Hamburg-based company TUI Cruises. This vessel will also make its first call at our port where, until next April, it will have a homeport operation to cover an itinerary departing from and returning to Tenerife, taking it to Arrecife, Las Palmas, La Palma and Funchal.
The LNG supply will be provided by the barge New Frontier 1, chartered by Shell, moored alongside the cruise ship, and will mark the beginning of a series of LNG supplies planned for this season that will reinforce the port’s role as a strategic infrastructure for cruise traffic operating on clean energy.
The Port of Tenerife was the first to supply LNG to a cruise ship, specifically the AIDA Nova in December 2018, a unit that has been joined by eight more units since 2024.
