Typhoon “Kalmaegi” will pass through central Philippines on the 4th and move into the southeastern sea area of the South China Sea on the 5th.

The center of Typhoon Haiku, the 25th typhoon of this year (severe tropical storm level), was located about 950 kilometers southeast of Manila, Philippines, on the northwestern Pacific Ocean surface at 5:00 AM today (November 3), at latitude 10.9° North and longitude 128.9° East. The maximum wind force near the center is force 11 (30 m/s), the central minimum pressure is 980 hPa, the radius of the force 7 wind circle is 160-220 kilometers, and the radius of the force 10 wind circle is 50-80 kilometers.

It is forecast that “HaiKu” will continue to move westward at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour, pass through central Philippines on the 4th, move into the southeastern sea area of the South China Sea on the 5th, gradually intensify, and could reach severe typhoon strength (42-50 m/s, category 14-15) at its peak, gradually heading towards the central coastal area of Vietnam.

From the 5th to the 7th, affected by Typhoon “HaiKu”, wind forces in most of the central and southern parts of the South China Sea could reach force 9 to 12, with gusts of force 13 to 15; the Nansha, Zhongsha, and Xisha Islands will experience heavy wind and rain; additionally, from the 2nd to the 7th, affected by persistent easterly airflow, cities and counties including Qionghai, Wanning, Tunchang, Qiongzhong, and Lingshui will experience heavy to torrential rain, with locally very heavy rain.

According to the weather forecast, in the next 24 hours, some towns in the three /counties of Wanning, Qiongzhong, and Qionghai are expected to experience heavy precipitation of 100 mm-150 mm; some towns in the seven /counties of Lingshui, Baoting, Tunchang, Ding’an, Wenchang, Danzhou, and Wuzhishan are expected to experience precipitation of 50 mm-80 mm.

At 16:30 on November 2, the Provincial Meteorological Bureau issued a Level IV rainstorm warning. At 17:00 the same day, the Provincial Disaster Reduction, Mitigation and Relief Committee decided to initiate a Level IV emergency response for flood control and typhoon prevention.

Relevant departments are requested to pay close attention to the latest information from the Provincial Meteorological Bureau. Offshore platforms and vessels operating in the central and southern South China Sea need to prepare for avoiding the wind. The eastern and central cities and counties of Hainan Island need to continue to perform inspections and safety management of reservoirs, geological hazard risk points, and construction sites.
