The European short sea shipping operator Samskip expanded its network with the introduction of a new service between Morocco and Northern Europe.

“Samskip assigned the 1,036 TEU vessel Samskip Toubkal (ex-Heinrich) to perform the first southbound voyage of the new service on October 31 from Rotterdam,” reported Alphaliner.

“The first northbound voyage, transporting citrus fruits from Morocco, will be performed by the 1,085 TEU vessel Amina (soon to be renamed Samskip Amina) on November 19 from Agadir,” it added.

The new weekly service between North Africa and Northern Europe will operate on two-week cycles with two vessels of between 1,000 and 1,100 TEU, calling at Casablanca, Agadir, Tilbury, Rotterdam and returning to Casablanca.

“The launch of this new route coincides with Morocco’s fruit export season, which typically runs from October to April or May. Agadir is the most important port for fruit in Morocco and functions as a key hub in the global fruit and vegetable trade,” noted the consultancy.
