The approximately 52-kilometer coastline between Beşgöz Stream and Göynük Çayı, which falls under the responsibility area of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, is monitored electronically 24/7 via EGDS. Thanks to the advanced night vision PTZ and thermal cameras deployed within the scope of the system, even the smallest pollution occurring on the sea surface can be tracked instantly, regardless of day or night. Teams at the center, managed by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Sea and Coastal Management, evaluate alerts from the system and immediately intervene against ships that pollute the sea.

Gül Çobanoğlu, who works as a technician at the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Department of Sea and Coastal Management, shared the following information about the system’s effectiveness: “With the high-resolution 40x optical zoom PTZ and thermal cameras we have placed at 22 different points, we monitor our seas 24/7. Through EGDS, as of 2025, administrative fines of 78 million 214 thousand TL have been imposed on 19 ships, and since the system became operational, penal procedures amounting to 210 million 940 thousand TL have been applied to 135 ships,” she said.

Stating that the system’s main purpose is not to issue fines, Çobanoğlu said that the revenue from the fines is used in environmental projects carried out for Antalya. Gül Çobanoğlu also conveyed that thanks to the Electronic Ship Inspection System, there has been a significant decrease in the number of ships discharging waste on the sea surface.
