The Vte port of Pra’ has been blocked since Sunday due to 19 containers from the MSC company’s ship Mariagrazia falling into the sea. The news was reported by La Repubblica of Genoa, in its Tuesday evening edition.

According to the newspaper, the port would be operational but no ship can enter or leave the port until all containers are recovered.

The dynamics of the incident are yet to be clarified, but from the photos in the newspaper’s possession, a possible collapse of a stack of containers appears to have occurred, probably due to a gust of wind.

The Harbor Master’s Office will still have to verify whether there was any negligence or an error in the container lashing operations.

The container recovery operations are still ongoing: four of these are said to have been recovered immediately after the collapse, with 15 having sunk into the sea.
