In recent days, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC) has been racing against time, operating at full capacity to successfully conclude the year-end “final battle,” achieving multiple production milestones consecutively and commencing construction on several vessels.

On November 14, the construction of Hull No. 17, a 175,000 cubic meter LNG carrier, began at DSIC for Shanghai COSCO Shipping LNG Investment Co., Ltd. Attendees at the ceremony included Cong Jian, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai COSCO Shipping LNG Investment Co., Ltd., and Mao Huayu, Deputy General Manager; Zhang Wen, Vice President of Lloyd’s Register Greater China; Sun Yang, Head of the Construction Department at China Classification Society; and Lin Jiming, Deputy General Manager of DSIC, among others.

This vessel was independently developed by DSIC, integrates multiple cutting-edge technologies, and achieves industry-leading speed performance. The cargo tanks utilize the GTT Mark III Flex membrane-type containment system, with a daily natural boil-off rate as low as 0.085%. It is also equipped with a deep-cooling re-liquefaction unit, significantly enhancing the vessel’s economic efficiency.

Recently, the construction of Hull No. 92, a 115,000-ton product oil tanker, began at DSIC for Vietnam ASIA PACIFIC SHIPPING CO., LTD. This vessel is equipped with an open-loop scrubber, and its main engine and generators employ an SCR system, enabling nitrogen oxide emissions to meet the NOx Tier III standard. The Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) reaches Phase 3, with overall performance and environmental features achieving world-leading levels.

On November 11, the construction of Hull No. 63 (P110K-63), a 115,000-ton ice-class product oil tanker for Greece’s Dynacom, and Hull No. 9 (T110K-9), a 115,000-ton crude oil tanker for Greece’s Arcadia, commenced at DSIC’s Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (Shan Shipbuilding).

The cooperation with Arcadia holds dual milestone significance: it marks the shipowner’s first entry into the Chinese shipbuilding market and its first collaboration with Shan Shipbuilding, demonstrating international clients’ recognition of China’s high-end shipbuilding capabilities.

Among them, the P110K-63 product oil tanker, as an ice-strengthened vessel, represents breakthroughs in structural design and coating protection processes. It is also the first ice-class product oil tanker contracted by Shan Shipbuilding.

On November 14, the keel laying ceremony for Hull No. 20 (C16K-20), a methanol dual-fuel 15,000 TEU container ship built by DSIC’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. (DSIC Tianjin) for France’s CMA CGM, was held, marking the start of the continuous construction phase of the main hull.

During the construction of this vessel, DSIC Tianjin established a professional technical team and scientifically formulated production plans for key construction milestones. Through the rational allocation of human resources, equipment, and site resources, efficient coordination across all stages was achieved. Currently, the engine room area has successfully completed the construction of core block sections, including the engine room bottom, with the initial form of the engine room taking shape, creating favorable conditions for the installation of key equipment such as the power system. In the cargo hold area, multiple block assemblies have been completed cumulatively, facilitating the rapid formation of the hull structure through scaled construction efforts.

On November 12, Hull No. 18 (C16K-18), a methanol dual-fuel 15,000 TEU container ship built by DSIC Tianjin for France’s CMA CGM, was successfully undocked, formally entering the underwater commissioning phase. The shaft and rudder system installation for this vessel was completed 7 days ahead of the lead ship’s schedule. The main engine hoisting was completed in just 9 days. The special coating work for the methanol tank, from oil cleaning inspection to MEK inspection, was accelerated by 10 days compared to the lead ship, achieving breakthroughs in multiple core indicators.

On November 12, Hull No. 5 (M85K-5), an 85,000-ton multi-purpose pulp carrier built by Shan Shipbuilding for CITIC Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., successfully completed all sea trial tasks and returned triumphantly. The total duration of this sea trial was 92.5 hours, including 75 hours of main engine operation. The inspection items took 50 hours, and all test items were passed on the first attempt.
