The final vessel in a series of multi-purpose pulp carriers built by Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., the “GREEN GUANGZHOU”, was officially named on the 14th in Dalian, Liaoning, and is set to be delivered to the shipowner. This marks the full completion of the order for 50 multi-purpose pulp carriers undertaken by Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry since 2017.
As high-end specialized vessels, pulp carriers have extremely high technical requirements for sealing, environmental protection, and multi-cargo compatibility. Their market was long monopolized by foreign companies. In 2017, Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry formally received the order to build 50 multi-purpose pulp carriers. This series of vessels is currently the largest professional pulp transport vessel in the industry.
The “GREEN GUANGZHOU” has an overall length of 225.00 meters, a molded breadth of 32.26 meters, and a molded depth of 21.00 meters, with a design speed of 15 knots. This type of vessel features excellent cargo hold sealing and dryness, fully ensuring the transport quality and safety of pulp cargo. In addition to transporting pulp, the vessel can also carry various goods such as high-speed rail trains, wind power equipment, large mechanical equipment, and extra-long, extra-heavy steel pipe pile structures, demonstrating extremely strong cargo hold adaptability.
Addressing the needs of the new energy industry’s overseas expansion, the vessel has been specially upgraded with “foldable dedicated frames for commercial vehicles” and is equipped with a temperature monitoring and early warning system tailored for new energy vehicles.
Shao Xiaobin, General Manager of Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, stated that with the complete construction of the order for 50 multi-purpose pulp carriers, this series of vessels has achieved continuous iteration over nine years, progressing through four types of multi-purpose pulp carriers: 62,000 tons, 68,000 tons, 77,000 tons, and 85,000 tons.
The vessel’s functions have extended from “professional pulp transport + bulk breakbulk cargo + bulk cargo” to a combined carrier mode of “vehicles + containers”. This not only meets the core demands for domestic high-end equipment exports and bulk commodity transport but also exports China’s shipbuilding technical standards and service capabilities overseas.
