Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) announced that, from now on, electric trucks will benefit from the elimination of time slot restrictions at the Hamburg container terminals.

As part of its sustainability strategy, HHLA no longer requires the reservation of time slots for electric trucks through registration. The pilot phase will initially extend until mid-2026. From now on, a new category in the time slot reservation system will allow transport companies to reserve slots without being subject to fixed schedules. In this way, electric trucks can be managed flexibly throughout the reserved day, allowing for the consideration of the specific needs of their charging process.

Jens Hansen, Chief Operating Officer of HHLA, stated that “by temporarily suspending the compliance with the regulations on parking slots for electric trucks, we specifically support the transition to climate-friendly propulsion systems. For many years, the entire HHLA Group has been driving the electrification of its equipment across Europe, with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions and offering our customers sustainable and future-oriented solutions.”

The time slot reservation system was implemented in 2017 to avoid bottlenecks and alleviate congestion in the port of Hamburg. Since then, HHLA has continuously developed the system together with its partners.

“The temporary suspension of compliance with the time slot regulations, as well as the use of our own electric trucks by our subsidiaries Metrans and CTD, underlines HHLA’s firm commitment to the development of sustainable transport solutions. HHLA plans to operate in a climate-neutral manner across the entire Group by 2040; the new regulations also seek to help other companies in their transition towards emission-free logistics,” it specified in a public statement.
