The thirty-year agreement for the Laldia Container Terminal will increase the port capacity of Bangladesh and allow the arrival of larger ships by 2030

Chattogram – Apm Terminals has signed a $550 million agreement for the construction of a new container terminal in Bangladesh. The concession will have a duration of thirty years and concerns the Laldia Container Terminal in Chattogram, the country’s main port. The project will allow the port to accommodate ships larger than those currently operating.

Once operational, expected by 2030, the new terminal will increase Bangladesh’s annual handling capacity by over 800,000 teu. The deep-water facility will gradually allow the port to handle ships of up to 6,000 teu, exceeding the current limit of about 2,800 teu.

Apm Terminals is part of the Maersk group, which already handles almost 30% of the containers entering and leaving Bangladesh, confirming the strategic role of the investment for the country’s logistics system.
