China News Service, Ezhou, Hubei, May 13 (Wu Yili, Liu Xiaojin, Wang Xingyu) Asia’s first professional cargo airport — the Smart Public International Cargo Terminal project of the Ezhou Huahu International Airport Air-Style National Logistics Hub passed industry acceptance on the 13th, marking that the terminal is ready for operation. The current phase of the project has an annual international cargo and mail handling capacity of 400,000 tons, which will be increased to 600,000 tons in the long term.

It is reported that the project is a core supporting facility of the Huahu Airport international cargo system, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan, covering an area of approximately 300 mu. The main construction contents include a 77,000-square-meter high-standard public international cargo warehouse and a 10,000-square-meter comprehensive business building.

During the acceptance process, the civil aviation industry competent authority conducted a comprehensive inspection of the project’s cargo terminal main body, apron engineering, intelligent systems, and supporting support facilities. All facilities and equipment of the project operate stably, with functions meeting design requirements and conforming to industry standards.

As a smart international cargo terminal, the project focuses on full-process intelligent collaboration, achieving intelligent linkage of process equipment, paperless electronic document circulation, full-domain perception interconnection, and cold chain full-process visual tracking. The interior of the cargo terminal is arranged with multiple functional zones, including outbound receiving, temporary storage, palletizing, inbound de-palletizing, inspection, cold chain storage, and special cargo handling, efficiently supporting the inbound and outbound operations of various types of cargo such as general goods, e-commerce parcels, cold chain goods, dangerous goods, valuables, and live animals.

According to the 2025 global airport air cargo volume rankings recently released by Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Ezhou Huahu International Airport became the “growth champion” among global cargo hubs with a year-on-year growth rate of 32.4%, achieving an air cargo and mail throughput of 1.1457 million tons, ranking 26th globally.

After the official operation of this cargo terminal, the international cargo support capability of Huahu Airport will achieve a dual improvement in quality and efficiency, further consolidating and enhancing its position in the global air cargo network. (End)
