The Hellenic Navy signed a contract with Naval Group for the construction of the fourth FDI class frigate. The signatures placed by Major General Ioannis Bouras and Naval Group CEO Pierre Éric Pommellet on November 14, 2025, cover the supply and maintenance of the ship, as well as the integration of new capabilities into the entire FDI HN fleet.
The fourth FDI is a continuation of the FDI HN program launched in 2022. The program includes three frigates and one optional vessel and aims for extensive industrial cooperation with Greek industry. While the construction of the first three frigates is currently ongoing, the first delivery is planned for the end of 2025.
Naval Group CEO Pommellet stated, “This order is an indication of the Hellenic Navy’s trust and satisfaction with our ships. We will continue to use our expertise for Greece’s maritime superiority.” It was also announced that 25% of the value of the FDI HN4 will be covered by local content.
FDI frigates stand out as high-capability, versatile warships against anti-air, anti-submarine, anti-surface, and asymmetric threats. With its compact design, advanced digital systems, and low crew requirement, the ship can operate in all sea conditions and is designed to be compatible with NATO standards.
