The container ship ONE Strength will call at the Port of Montevideo next November 21 and will be the largest ship of its type to arrive at the Uruguayan port facility.
The vessel from Ocean Network Express (ONE) was built in 2025 by Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., in Japan, and has a length of 336 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a deadweight of 160,200 tons. Its estimated capacity is 14,000 TEU and its service speed is 22 knots. The ship is prepared for the use of alternative fuels like methanol or ammonia.
According to the general manager of ONE Uruguay, Pablo Domínguez, the call is considered a historic milestone for the Uruguayan port system and will consolidate Montevideo’s position as a regional logistics hub.
The vessel will join the Far East route and connect the east coast of South America with Asia as part of the SX1 service, including a weekly call at Terminal Cuenca del Plata.
ONE Strength is part of the company’s fleet expansion plan, which reinforces the shipping line’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the pursuit of excellence in the services the company provides to its South American customers, the executive highlighted.
According to Domínguez, the container ship is part of the new generation of efficient and environmentally friendly vessels. He assured that its incorporation will improve service capacity with Asia, a region that is a vital trading partner for Uruguay.
He added that the ship will facilitate the export of Uruguayan products and the flow of imports, boosting the country’s connectivity and foreign trade.
