Awards assigned by the Territorial Welfare Committee for the Seafaring People of Genoa

The traditional charity evening organized by the Territorial Welfare Committee of the Gente di Mare of Genoa was held on board the GNV ferry La Suprema.

The funds raised will be used for the projects that the Welfare Committee carries out in favor of maritime personnel through the work of the Apostolato del Mare – Fondazione Stella Maris Onlus. Among the initiatives for 2026 presented during the evening, the goal of creating the first digital platform dedicated to seafarers, which will be called Seamen’s Club on-line, with the aim of improving the connectivity of seafarers at sea and providing essential services and useful information, contributing to maintaining a vital link between sea workers and the outside world.

A central and touching moment of the evening was the remembrance of Cavaliere Aldo Grimaldi, a great entrepreneur who was “visionary, generous, and attentive towards his Captains and his seafarers”. Grimaldi was celebrated as a man who deeply believed in the values of work and, above all, in respect and the centrality of the human person.

During the evening, the Plaque in memory of Aldo Grimaldi was conferred upon the Corps of the Capitanerie di Porto – Guardia Costiera, on the occasion of its 160th anniversary, as a recognition of the incessant work carried out by the Corps for the care of training and professionalism and for the safety of the Gente di mare.

The honorary plaques of the Welfare Committee were awarded to Assagenti (Associazione Agenti Marittimi Raccomandatari e Mediatori Marittimi di Genova), on the occasion of its 80th anniversary, for the collaboration given to the Welfare Committees in their action in favor of maritime personnel, and to Deacon Massimo Franzi, for his tireless dedication and commitment over more than twenty years of service as head of the Apostolato del Mare in Genoa, strengthening the role and presence of Stella Maris at the local and national level.
