An operational emergency, with a favorable outcome, was recorded in the Emilio Mitre Channel following a fire on a sailboat with two crew members on board. The situation was detected by personnel of the National Ports and Navigation Agency (ANPyN) using the Monitoring System (SiMon), equipped with PTZ security cameras.
The ANPyN Monitoring Center works in permanent coordination with the Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA), which ensured that the SAR rescue protocol was activated without delay. All of the PNA’s response maneuvers were monitored in real time by the Río de La Plata Traffic Control Center (VTS).
Crew members rescued 100 meters from the vessel
Rescue personnel located the two individuals, a man and a woman aged 43 and 49, floating 100 meters from the vessel. Once rescued, the crew members were assisted by the Emergency Medical Care System (SAME).
It was determined that the sailboat, which had departed from San Fernando bound for Colonia, Uruguay, suffered a total or partial loss due to the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.
The Monitoring System that saved lives
The early detection of the incident by the ANPyN’s Monitoring System (SiMon) allowed the rescue chain to be activated in critical time.
The permanent coordination between the ANPyN Monitoring Center, the Argentine Naval Prefecture, and the VTS of the Río de La Plata demonstrated the effectiveness of inter-agency work in maritime emergency situations.
