Wärtsilä Gas Solutions will supply a range of integrated systems for a new LNG bunkering vessel being built at Jiangnan Shipyard in China for Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) Energy Shanghai Co.

The scope of supply includes the cargo handling system, the fuel gas supply system, and a boil-off gas reliquefaction system. The order was booked in the third quarter of 2025.

The contract follows SIPG’s experience operating the Hai Gang Wei Lai, an LNG bunkering vessel also equipped with Wärtsilä systems. Since taking over that vessel, SIPG is said to have completed more than 200 bunkering operations totalling over 1 million cbm of LNG for vessels calling at Shanghai port over approximately three and a half years.

“We are satisfied with the performance of Wärtsilä systems and this is the reason we are working with them again in this new project,” He Bin, Vice General Manager of Shanghai SIPG Energy Service Co. Ltd, commented.

Barry Yang, General Manager Sales, China, Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, noted: “SIPG has rich operation experience in LNG bunkering vessels and provides valuable input for the vessel’s optimization. We are working closely with the owner and shipyard to implement improvements, which will elevate the system to a new level of performance.”

The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard during 2026, with the vessel expected to be commissioned in summer 2027.

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of the technology group’s Portfolio Business division, provides systems and lifecycle solutions for gas handling in maritime applications, including storage, fuel, transfer, and boil-off gas management.
